Sounds like a 400/450 head is a must for a performance Farmall M engine. If pistons are custom for a specific C/R, is there any difference between a 450 gas or 450 lp head as far as performance is concerned?Posted April 28, 2022. IH didn't change the total 25 degree advance on a 400 gas when fire craters were installed. Other models like M and SM fire crater kits used 22 degrees total advance. There are new aftermarket heads around that are priced cheap enough.
