I tried to do this but cannot remove the trigger/hammer assembly from the frame. It seems to be one piece, but I have seen a photo on you tube where it is in 2 or more parts. I believe the .38 special +P will have the edge in power, however you define it, because it can deliver a heavier round at similar (and possibly even greater) velocity. As for standard loads, as they say, .38 special has been stopping bad guys for a long, long time - with a good load.These guns were built on the small .32 caliber I frame, thus the model name .38/32 Terrier. As Hawg pointed out, it chambers .38 S&W cartridges which can be found at most big box sporting goods stores and from online retailers. As far as value goes, it depends on the region/state you are in, but I'd put it in the $500-600 range.
