Tradovate vs interactive brokers.
The futures commissions on tda are nasty indeed. ~$5 per contract round trip. Terrible. But I like the interface and I think using ActiveTrader is easier and more intuitive than most other platforms I’ve tried. I’m currently trading MES on IB’s TWS platform and only paying about a buck per contract round trip.

As I said I don't use Tradovate, but basic data in CQG data in Ninjatrader is $12 a month, and it provides the main CME instruments, among many others. Either way, you are paying for market data. I suppose similar to the way that Samsung or Apple make phones, but the don't work without a carrier connection, which have separate contracts and fees.
When it comes to futures, you need to consider the platform, data feed and order routing. Some brokers will offer their own all in one solution like IB. The mainstream data feeds are CQG and Rithmic. Ninja is a decent platform. It costs more and I just don’t think it’s as customizable. Interactive Brokers is just not good for futures. Platform sucks, data is crap. I’ve heard Tradeovate is good. TDA is a good all around broker, but it's not a futures broker. If you trade exclusively futures NinjaTrader and Tradovate are the two most popular brokers. It's not just the commission difference, but the tools they offer.
