Possible Water Pump Failure? I bought a 2011 1.4L Cruze a few months back with roughly 100k miles. A few days ago, I noticed that the heater was struggling to keep up, but I assumed that it was just the cold weather we'd been having.. About 10 degrees F or so.
Early pumps the coolant would leak out from around the disc, and we were actually sealing new pumps with RTV around the lower area so they wouldn't leak out unless full. Unless that reservoirs top drain hole gets clogged, or the pump has a HUGE leak, coolant typically doesn't drip from the top hole. Like.I replaced the gasket and water pump myself this weekend along with oil cooler seals. The reason it is leaking is because the top 3 bolts do not torque. They go in and tighten up but do not torque. I am 100% confident this was not due to me, and I think the dealership did this back in 2018. The thermostat housings are also a common failure point on 1.8L, so may as well do it while you're in there and have the cooling system open. FYI, coolant life is 5 yr/150k, so may as well just change that all too.To start, vehicle is a 2015 Cruze LT with the 1.4 Turbo, approx 154,000 miles. About a year or year and a half ago I had my water pump replaced at a local reputable shop. Seems like ever since then, my pump fails within a couple months or 4k miles.
