Many CB base stations came with D-104 mics as stock mics. Although many Browning base radios had D-104 used on them, this wasn't the stock mic. The stock mic that came with the Browning base was the banana mic manufactured by Electro-Voice. It is a FET circuit board that is ready to install and mounts inside the base directly on the two standoffs intended for the stock amplifier board.A FET amplifier can be used to bridge the D-104 element at a very high impedance and achieve a remarkably good sound from these attractive classic microphones. Original Circuit (Amplified D-104) The first stage of the D-104 amplifier provides the load for the mike element. Originally it uses a common NPN bi-polar transistor. The D104-M6 preamplifier is powered by a readily available, easily replaced, 9 volt battery. The D104-M6 has a six wire coil cord which allows for relay, electronic or virtually any type hookup with almost any transceiver. The audio line is open during receive. Ceramic Power Microphone. I think the originals had high-impedance crystal microphone elements, so probably not a bad match to a modern transceiver. And if it has a preamp, that should take care of any matching issues anyway. It seems a little unusual that a musician would have one.
