These sound issues are really problematic. I had the severe stuttering issue with my sound. Switching from DX11 -> DX9 (as recommended in the SE thread) did solve the issue for me. You can change the setting in the Launcher window from the Gear Icon.The 44.1 Mhz sound change did not help.
Audio no longer plays at all. As of 12/12/2020, after an update on my Windows computer, my audio on FFXIV no longer plays. It is just FFXIV with this issue. I am on PC and I have tried numerous ways to get the audio back, from: -Changing my Borderless Windowed game to Windowed>Closing the game>Opening game>Going to Fullscreen mode.Depends on how your system handles audio. I have an icon on my system try for my motherboard's audio driver. I right click and select preferences. There is a drop down list in that window for Mono, Stereo, Surround (5.1), Surround (7.1). Very low volume and sound quality since update. Hi, I know the sound issue seems to be widespread but I haven't seen anyone with that one: my overall game volume got extremely quiet after the Endwalker update. I usually play with the Master Volume on 6% to be able to hear people on Discord, and now even at 100% it's less loud than the before-EW 6%.

Check your audio settings. If you have surround sound enabled but don't actually have a surround speaker set up, the game tries to put the voice acting channel to a speaker that doesn't exist.
