yes the amazon filters are technically "counterfeit" but only because they lack the GE approved RFID chip (money grab). If you can remove the chip you can affix it to the reader and proceed buying the 3rd party filters. This is all just a scam by GE to make us guy "genuine filters" at a crazy markup.
