It is probably a number 40 or 41 chain. ..it would be stamped on the side of each link. You can buy chain almost anywhere. I went to grainger and got 10 feet of chain and 3 or 4 master links for $25.You should check to make sure the starter is bolted down tight to the engine. The starter gear directly contacts the inside of the flywheel. There is no belt or anything else involved in the starters operation. If you remove the starter you can put a little lubrication on the shaft the starter gear spins on.
Follow these steps: 1 Remove – Remove the plug wire (twist and pull) and remove the spark plug. You may need to remove some plastic engine covers. Check – Check the plug gap isn’t closed and the plug is clean. (See cleaning and gapping the plug below) 2 Refit – Refit the spark plug wire to the now loose spark plug.
