Survivor gives you a lot more freedom in combat, but I think the biggest thing, is the fact you can hit 3 zombies at a time rather than just 1. There is a mod for that, it's called multihit limiter. It allows you to toggle what weapons, the strength and fitness you need and the weapon skill needed to activate multi hit.
