I believe a 12 gauge 600 jr took a red wad guide. Early guides also came in brass. They can be found but are hard to find, brass or plastic. Mec offers a replacement - revamped system. At a nominal cost that looks more robust than the old wad guide.Try loosening the nut holding the pin, run it down into a hull, and re tighten while holding it in the down position. I have never experienced the problems you are having with seating the wad. I am fixing to change mine over from 12 ga to 410 3 inch. I hope it was going to be easy.
