I have a 5268AC Uverse Router. Had to do a reset on the router in the settings through the IP address the other day after having some issues with a range extender. Tossed the range extender and reset the router just to go back to the way it was and the router has been dropping service every couple hours or so ever since.

Probably the gateway is defective and doing a factory reset on its own. Just replace it by calling tech support (800-288-2020).
