A good shadow beats a mage in pretty much every regard. Shadow is passive heal, replenishment, mana- and healhymn, stamina- and shadowbuff. It has great burst (pretty much best ranged on tendon), great AoE, particularly with 3-4 target fights like blackhorn and a good shadow priest should be able to spec heal for 3heal encounters.
