Honestly, they quit making them back when Bill Clinton's Gun Ban went into effect and Marlin discontinued the 70...then reworked it so the old high-capacity magazines could not be used in the new 795. The Numrich stocks are NOS (New, Old Stock) and were considerably higher in price until recently.

The screw does not go through the stock but uses the reciever and the plastic trigger guard to clamp onto the stock (like a C-clamp). I don't think the Marlin 795 has be discontinued. Marlin was bought by Ruger, and I think Ruger is in the process of bringing production back on line. I suspect Ruger will start with the Lever Guns, but I suspect they will eventually start selling the XT-22 Bolt, the Model 60 semi-auto, and the Model 795 semi-auto.
