it is not just used to protect but it is also best used with max range to slow enemies coptering to hordes to cast it is very useful you can put the augment for ice wave aswell. the avalanche is only useful when dealing with lvl 1~20 mobs. for the weapons to support frost with mobs, KOHM is the best choice with all atk speed mods.
For secondaries, you can get the Synoid Gammacor. It's pretty strong, and the syndicate effect restores energy, which is nice. Atomos is another good option. For primary weapons, I'd probably just wait till MR 8 to get the Fulmin. Zaws, kitguns, and kuva weapons don't have any MR restrictions, and they're pretty much the best weapons in the game.
Nothing is bad, some are just plain weird to mod. Panthera was one of my main weapon before rework, with some firerate and status duration it was already sortie viable.
