Completing your class quests gives you a helmet light, a nail gun, and early access to better tools, workbenches, concrete and steel. You want a concrete base for the day 7 horde and steel for day 21. Scout quests are fast and easy.

The top cap is 200 and min cap is 60-70. There is a perk under athletics that increases it. Don't rely on the trader guards to kill zombies. They can kill one or two most of the time, but they won't do nearly enough for something like horde night. They can also shoot you so be careful. Look out for crowbars.
TIA! You can wrench tyres lying around (on the road and pass n gas’s etc). I usually get a wheel every 3rd odd tyre. Haven’t tried with a mining tool so unsure if that works. I think something changed a while ago so you can't get tire drops from loot anymore. You're going to have to get the mechanic class.
