POF makes innovative stuff that looks very cool. My experience has found that POF quality is sometimes lacking and they don't really stand behind their products. I'd definitely go with the Ruger. I got the ruger sfar and put a red dot and magnifier on it first. It's hard for me to make a quick follow up shot with that setup, but is rarely needed. It's recoil is more than the AR15 but seems way less than that of a bolt action. I ended up putting the Sig tango on it and have liked it very much.

The difference between 18" & 16" is probably going to be negligible for hunting/plinking. I wouldn't even worry about it. I would absolutely pay the extra for the Sig.
